Protect Select operates in the United Kingdom and may provide information, quotation support and related services in connection with life insurance and over 50s cover. Our Privacy Policy is set out below. Please read this policy with care; it describes how we process, share and use your data.

  2. The information we collect

The personal information that we may collect about you broadly falls into the following categories.

    Information that you provide voluntarily

Certain parts of our website may ask you to provide personal information voluntarily. For example, we may ask you to provide contact details so that we can provide a quote, send further communications where permitted, or respond to enquiries. The personal information you are asked to provide, and the reasons why it is requested, will be made clear at the point we ask you to provide it.

Some personal information that you provide may include information classified by applicable data protection law as special category data, such as health-related information. This may be needed for the purposes of providing an accurate quote for you or enabling third-party insurance providers to provide an accurate quote.

In order to provide you with an indicative quote, we may collect information via our website, including personal details such as your name, date of birth, contact numbers and email address. We may also process special category data in the form of health information such as smoker status. Your information may then be shared with insurance partners so they can provide indicative quotes.

If you require tailored advice appropriate for your needs and circumstances, further information may be required from you, including financial, occupational, health and lifestyle information and details of any current policies.

Should you decide to proceed further, more detailed health and lifestyle information may be collected to allow insurance companies to provide terms for a policy. Insurance partners may use automated underwriting when providing a decision and guaranteed quote based on the information provided, or they may undertake manual underwriting and request further information before making a decision.

    Information that we collect automatically

When you visit our website, we may collect certain information automatically from your device. This may include your IP address, device type, unique device identification numbers, browser type, broad geographic location, mobile phone network and other technical information.

We may also collect information about how your device has interacted with our website, including pages accessed and links clicked. This helps us understand visitors, improve the quality and relevance of our website, and assess the effectiveness of our marketing.

Some of this information may be collected using cookies and similar tracking technology, as explained further under the Cookie Policy section below.

Information that we obtain from third-party sources

From time to time, we may receive personal information about you from third parties, such as your spouse or partner, but only where we have checked that these third parties either have your consent or are otherwise legally permitted or required to disclose your personal information to us.

The types of information collected from third parties may include contact details and information about your health and lifestyle. We use this information to provide a quote and, where applicable, arrange a policy for you.

  3. Processing your data

Protect Select may handle the personal information you provide. This may include sensitive personal data, such as health information, provided as part of the quotation and application process.

Protect Select may use personal information for the following purposes:

    • To provide you with a quotation and help you apply for a policy.
    • To provide administrative services in relation to your policy.
    • For the prevention, detection and investigation of financial crime, including fraud.
    • For statistical and analytical research.
    • Where necessary, to comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

Protect Select may use third parties to process your data. Where we do so, appropriate safeguards will be used.

When we provide your data to insurance partners for the purposes of obtaining a quote or applying for a policy, they may undertake automated underwriting. Details of this automated process and your rights to challenge the outcome should be provided in the insurers’ own privacy policies.

We rely on the following legal bases to use your personal data:

    • Contract: processing is necessary for a contract we have with you, or because you have asked us to take specific steps before entering into a contract.
    • Legitimate interests: processing is necessary for our legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party, unless there is a good reason to protect your personal data which overrides those interests.
    • Consent: in some circumstances we may require your consent, including for certain direct marketing activities or the processing of special category data where explicit consent is required.
  4. Where your data is held and how we keep it secure

Your personal data may be held on secure servers operated by Protect Select, SGA Consultancy Group Limited and third-party service providers contracted by us. Third-party service providers and data processors may have access to, or process, your data on our behalf in connection with the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

Most third parties we work with are based within the UK or European Economic Area. Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we will take steps designed to ensure an equivalent level of protection and appropriate safeguards.

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the personal information that we collect and process. These measures are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risk of processing and to help protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.

  5. Your rights

You have the right to ask Protect Select for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, including call recordings where applicable.

You may request access, correction, updating, deletion, restriction, portability or object to the processing of your personal information. If you believe information we hold is incorrect, please contact us with details of the inaccuracies and we will take steps to rectify them.

You also have the right to opt out of marketing communications at any time. You can do this by using any unsubscribe or opt-out link in the marketing communications we send you, or by contacting us using the details set out in this policy.

If we have collected and processed your personal information with your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

  6. Retention of data

In order to meet record keeping requirements, including those of the Financial Conduct Authority where applicable, we may retain records for a period of six years after the end of the policy or policies arranged for you. The end of the policy may include the date the policy reaches the end of its term, the date a claim is made, or the date the policy is cancelled.

If you provided contact details via a website but decide not to proceed further, we may keep your details for up to 24 months before deletion, unless a different retention period is required or permitted by law.

If we have obtained further details from you directly and you have received advice or a quote, we may store your data for a period of six years following the advice or quotation.

If you have applied for a policy through us, we may keep your data for a period of six years after your policy is cancelled, your policy term expires, or a claim is made resulting in the policy expiring.

  7. External links

This website may contain links to websites operated by third parties under different privacy policies. If you click one of those links, you will be leaving our website and this Privacy Policy will no longer apply.

  8. Ongoing service

As part of our ongoing service to you, we may contact you from time to time to offer a review of your protection needs in light of any changes of circumstance. If you do not wish to be contacted, you can opt out at any time.

From time to time we may also contact you with details of similar protection products and services that we believe may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to be contacted, you can opt out at any time.

  9. Who we may share your information with

We may share your information with third-party insurers, service providers and business partners:

    • To obtain the quotes you have requested.
    • To provide insurers with information they require to make a decision about your insurance application.
    • To arrange an insurance product on your behalf.
    • As otherwise required to fulfil our contract with you.

Some of this information may be special category data, such as health-related information.

Limited information may be shared with advertising service providers and organisations we work with, such as Google, Facebook, Outbrain, Taboola and other advertising partners. We may share data with them to help us understand customer behaviour, advertise and improve our services now and in the future. We will not sell your data to third parties for them to market to you.

Your personal information may also be disclosed to law enforcement bodies, regulatory or government agencies, courts or other third parties where disclosure is necessary as a matter of applicable law or regulation, to exercise, establish or defend legal rights, or to protect vital interests.

We may also share your data with another corporate entity in our group, including entities that we may acquire or that may acquire us in the future. They will only use your personal information for the purposes disclosed in this Privacy Policy.

We may also share your information with any other person if you have consented to the disclosure.

  10. Cookie policy

We use cookies and similar tracking technology, collectively “Cookies”, to collect and use personal information about you. A cookie policy should inform users what cookies are used on this site, why they are used and how to manage them.
